I’m a firm believer that the better we try to get to know ourselves and our bodies, the more harmony we’re able to manifest in our lives.
Whether you’re an ardent adopter or a resolute rejecter of the latest fad, it’s hard to turn your nose up at ancient wisdom that recognises that different types of people need different diets and health and beauty regimes – even if it does appear to be particularly ‘fashionable’ at the moment.
Ayurveda, Sanskrit for “the knowledge for long life”, is a Hindu system of traditional natural medicine, native to India and dedicated to balancing the body and holistically treating any ailment that arises.
Within this system of medicine there are 3 identifiable body types named Doshas (labelled Vata, Pitta and Kapha), which are used to help categorise and, therefore, diagnose each individual as effectively as possible. Below is a great reference point illustrated by workingyoga.com:
Firmly believing in the importance of treating each individual as a whole, Ayurveda’s Doshas are not only characterised by your physical make-up, but also your mental health for the importance of the role it plays in overall well-being.
That is just a very quick snap shot but if you’re interested to read a little more, Pukka Herbs is another great reference and knowing your Dosha can help you understand why you might be feeling that little bit sluggish, down in the mouth or down right erratic today.
